Untitled (magazines)
HD video, 6h 05' 13'', 2015

Objects in the form of art magazines (1971 - 2015) bought from a shedding sale of the art academy's library and from my personal collection form the basis of the 6 hour video work.

Art magazines as objects, as information, as propaganda, as gatekeepers and gates, marketplaces and strategic instruments. As documents of time passing. And finally as these specific objects; having served as educational 'building blocks', as humus layers and as direct harvesting grounds, as physical evidence of the art world as it developed and changed over time.

The magazines are glossed over by the mechanical eye of the video camera, reacted upon intuitively and gleaned for visual and textual information, constantly shifting from content to context and back. Images, text and advertisement pages are pictured together. The hierarchy of information and meaning is questioned by the unity of all elements. The work is edited directly in camera.

A sequence of sreeenshots is featured in the publication Politics of Installation - Roma Publications with works by Hans Demeulenaere, Bas van den Hurk, Lorelinde Verhees and Koenraad Dedobbeleer.
